Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals Decision Praised by Video Access Alliance
Court Rejects Challenges to the FCC’s order on franchise reform
July 1, 2008
WASHINGTON – The Video Access Alliance, a non-profit advocacy organization for networks, today praised the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals’ unanimous decision to reject challenges to the FCC’s order on franchise reform. The order placed limits on Local Franchise Authorities’ ability to delay or impose unreasonable conditions on video franchises.
“The Court’s decision is excellent news for consumers,” Video Access Alliance Chairman, Julia Johnson said. “They deserve the best possible market with the most competition, greatest choice, and lowest prices.”
“The delays companies were experiencing when obtaining franchises prior to the FCC’s decision were negatively affecting the competitive market,” Johnson continued.
“By siding with the FCC and upholding the order the Sixth Circuit Court made the best decision for consumers. This will continue to allow a competitive consumer-friendly market in an economy that is currently slumping,” concluded Johnson.
Video Access Alliance is a not-for-profit organization that serves as an advocacy and advisory group for independent, emerging and minority networks, video programmers, entertainers and other industry participants.
